Ministry Jubilee is a way for the churches of The Detroit Annual Conference to choose which programs they would like to support through their designated giving. Every year a booklet is published and distributed to the churches. In 2008, Outdoor and Retreat Ministries has 19 programs in Ministry Jubilee. 1104 International Camp Staff Support Christian young adults from Europe, Africa, and Australia come to be part of the Conference camp staffs to enrich our camp programs by sharing their unique perspectives on faith and culture. They bring to us the understanding that our similarities far outweigh our differences. 1108 Hispanic Camp In order for everyone to experience God’s presence and love at camp, to provide a special program for Hispanic/Latino families, we partner with and for Hispanic UMC's. Our gifts to this ministry extend hospitality beyond ourselves, yet the recipients are part of our connectional church. This camp is offered in cooperation with the Committee on Hispanic Ministries. Scholarships – All BORM Camps Detroit Conference camps offer life-changing programs of Christian discipleship and hospitality for individuals of all ages and from all walks of life. Significant faith development as well as new friendships, skills, and self-confidence are all nurtured in the camp setting. Camping is an extension of the local church’s Christian education ministry. Scholarships will assure that every child can attend camp, regardless of financial limitations. In recent years we have had increased request for camp scholarship assistance and we urge consideration of this ministry. Target Amount: $17,000. for Campers Bible study is one of the primary practices that help build lifestyles of Christian discipleship, and is an important part of the camp and retreat experiences. The American Bible Society is now offering the opportunity to provide special camp and retreat edition of the Bible for our campers. The cost of a Bible is approximately $4. MJ 1191 Camp Scholarships - Lake Louise Lake Louise Christian Community near Boyne Falls, is a ministry of Michigan United Methodists with a mission of "creating an environment that nurtures Christian growth and Christ-line community" on 2,400 acres surrounding a pristine lake. Our United Methodist camps sponsors elementary, middle, high school youth and adult camps in the summer, and hosts retreats throughout the year. Target Amount: $5,000. |

Development Your financial support helps make capital improvements at our Outdoor and Retreat ministry sites, providing facilities for summer camping and for churches and their members to use throughout the year. Many people respond to God’s love at camps and retreats, returning home as more committed disciples. Camp development allows our ministry to go forward. | MJ 1201 Camp Michigamme Development Camp Michigamme is 86 acres along Lake Michigamme in the beautiful Upper Peninsula, with a vision of becoming a year round spiritual life center for the Marquette District. Michigamme currently serves as many as 500 campers per summer, with goals of expanding to a year round program for adults, youth and children. Funds will be used for camp development, especially toward the construction of a multipurpose retreat center and indoor programming space. Target Amount: $5,250 |

1257 Camp Staff Training Detroit Conference Outdoor and Retreat Ministries offer life-changing programs of Christian discipleship and hospitality for people of all ages and from all walks of life. Significant faith development as well as new friendships, skills and self-confidence are all nurtured in the camp setting. Over 700 volunteer and paid staff members are deployed to provide this programming each year. It is critical that they are prepared to offer safe and effective leadership to our campers. Gifts to this fund will help underwrite the cost of dean and counselor training, including resource leaders, staff materials, first aid training, and other expenses. Collins Program Director Salary Support Judson Collins Center provides year-round camp and retreat opportunities. Although their particular focus is on children and youth, the camp is committed to the process of Christian discipleship for people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds, with a particular focus on children and youth. The Program Director provides leadership, structure, and hospitality to all programs and events, and supports the counselors and program leaders. Mentally and Physically Challenged Each summer the Board of Outdoor and Retreat Ministries offers several weeks of camping for these special populations. These opportunities for spiritual renewal, friendship, recreation, and family respite are, in many cases, the only "outside" opportunities for these campers. Extra costs for providing these programs include (but are not limited to) higher staff ratios, special medical supplies, outside resource people, and accessible facilities.
